Zn-Al-Mg galvanized coils with better anti rust than galvanized steel coils
(1) Adding magnesium to the zinc bath can reduce the intergranular corrosion rate and improve the corrosion resistance of the coating. This explanation is mainly due to the small content of Mg (Mg<0.2%) added in the alloy, which can refine the grain size and strengthen the grain boundary. (2) Improve the electrode potential of the matrix. The corrosion potential of zinc-based alloy was positively shifted and the corrosion current decreased obviously with the addition of magnesium. Some researchers believe that after adding Mg to the Zn-Al coating alloy, the corrosion potential does not change much, but the AC impedance increases, the electrode double layer capacitance decreases, that is, the corrosion reaction is delayed, thus improving the electrochemical corrosion resistance of the coating. (3) The addition of Mg promoted the formation of stable and dense corrosion products on the surface of the coating, and improved the corrosion resistance of the coating. The dense corrosion product inhibits the diffusion of oxygen, thus improving corrosion resistance. But for this dense layer of corrosion products have different views. (4) Buffering effect after dissolution of Mg. The solution of Mg can reduce the pH value of the cathode position, hinder the formation of ZnO and inhibit the reduction of oxygen. Many researchers believe it is more protective than basic zinc carbonate.
