    A vacuum degasser is used to remove entrained gas such as methane, hydrogen sulfide, and air from drilling mud. It helps restore mud density and improve well control safety. It is widely used after gas-cut mud returns from the wellbore.

    It works by creating a vacuum environment inside the tank. Gas-cut drilling fluid enters the unit, is spread into a thin film, and gas bubbles are separated under low pressure. The cleaned mud is then discharged back into the mud system.

    A vacuum degasser prevents gas lock in mud pumps, improves drilling efficiency, and reduces the risk of blowouts. It is a critical safety device in oil and gas drilling operations.

    It can remove methane (CH4), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen, and entrained air from drilling fluids.

    It is normally installed after the shale shaker and before the desander and desilter. This ensures gas is removed before further mud processing stages.

    The most common type is the vertical vacuum degasser. It is preferred due to its compact structure, high efficiency, and continuous operation capability in drilling rigs.

    Regularly check vacuum pump performance, clean the gas outlet, inspect seals, and ensure no blockage in the inlet. Proper maintenance ensures stable degassing efficiency and longer equipment life.
