Introduction
The Three-cylinder Dryer for River Sand is purpose-built for the most widely used drying material in construction: river sand. Whether for dry-mix mortar, ready-mix concrete or foundry sand, it turns wet dredged sand into stable dry sand below 1% moisture around the clock.
Triple-pass heat exchange passes hot air through the sand three times inside a short shell, cutting fuel by 30-40% and floor space by half versus a single-drum dryer of equal capacity. With 8-75 t/h models from 2.0×4m to 3.6×8m, there is a river sand drying line for every plant scale.
Hot Questions River Sand Buyers Ask Most
1. Wet river sand holds 15-25% moisture — how dry can it get?
Down to below 1% as required. For dry-mix mortar we typically dry to 0.5-1%, and for foundry or glass-grade sand to 0.3-0.5%, controlled by air temperature, rotation speed and feed rate.
2. Will wet sand stick or clog inside the drum?
No. The three nested cylinders plus three-stage lifting plates keep the sand constantly lifted and turned into a loose material curtain, preventing wall sticking and blocking even at 25% moisture.
3. Does drying damage the sand grains or change their quality?
No. Gentle lifting and adjustable rotation speed protect grain size and shape — no crushing, no burning, no color change — so dried river sand keeps its full value for mortar and concrete.
River Sand Application Scenarios & Complete Line
Dry-Mix Mortar: River sand is the main aggregate of dry-mix and plaster mortar; stable low moisture keeps the mix ratio and quality consistent batch after batch.
Ready-Mix & Precast Concrete: Pre-dried fine aggregate guarantees accurate water-cement ratio, essential for high-strength and winter construction.
Foundry Sand: Low-moisture sand below 0.5% for molding sand preparation and sand reclamation.
Glass & Construction Materials: Siliceous river sand pre-dried as raw material for glass batch and construction products.
Complete river sand drying line: wet sand stockpile → vibrating feeder → three-cylinder dryer → cooling conveyor → screening → storage silo — engineered for continuous, single-operator-per-shift production.

Working Process for River Sand Drying
1. Feeding: Wet dredged river sand is fed evenly into the three-layer nested cylinders via belt or vibrating feeder at a stable, adjustable rate.
2. Turning & Dispersing: Three-stage lifting plates repeatedly lift and turn the sand into a loose, uniform material curtain — preventing sticking and clogging even at high moisture.
3. Heat Exchange: Hot air at 700-750°C passes through the sand three times inside the short shell, maximizing moisture pickup per unit of fuel.
4. Moisture Evaporation: Sand travels from the inner cylinder to the outer one; final moisture drops to below 1% — or 0.3-0.5% for foundry grade — without burning or damaging grains.
5. Discharge & Dedusting: Dry sand discharges continuously to the cooling conveyor and silo; exhaust gas is cleaned by the cyclone and bag filter before emission, keeping the site clean.

FAQ
1. How much moisture can wet river sand have before drying?
The dryer handles river sand with initial moisture up to 20-25% directly. For extremely wet stockpiles above that, we recommend a simple dewatering screen or settling pit before the dryer.
2. What final moisture can be achieved?
Below 1% for dry-mix mortar and concrete; 0.3-0.5% for foundry and glass-grade sand. Final moisture is set by adjusting air temperature, rotation speed and feed rate.
3. What sand sizes can it process?
Fine, medium and coarse river sand from 0-5 mm are all suitable; the three-stage lifting plates keep every grain evenly exposed to the hot air stream.
4. What capacity range is available?
Eight models from 2.0×4m to 3.6×8m cover 8-75 t/h, so both small mortar plants and large aggregate lines are served by the same proven design.
5. Can wet sand be fed directly, or is pre-dewatering needed?
Direct feeding is standard for up to 20-25% moisture. If your sand comes straight from a washing line above that level, a dewatering screen or settling pit is the low-cost option we recommend.
