Frequently asked questions

A waterjet can cut virtually any material, including metals (titanium, stainless steel, copper), stone, glass, ceramics, composites, and rubber. While it excels at thicknesses between 1mm and 150mm, it can cut materials over 200mm by slowing down the cutting speed exceeding the capabilities of most laser or plasma cutters.

The primary advantage is Cold Cutting. Unlike lasers, waterjets generate no heat, meaning there is no Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ). This prevents material warping, hardening, or chemical changes. Waterjets also handle reflective materials (copper, aluminum) and ultra-thick materials that lasers cannot process.

Standard accuracy is approximately ±0.1mm. Traditional 3-axis waterjets naturally produce a slight taper (the bottom of the cut is wider than the top). However, our AC/AB 5-axis systems use dynamic compensation to tilt the head, resulting in perfectly vertical edges and higher precision.

Operating costs generally consist of four parts: Abrasive (Garnet sand): Typically 60%70% of the cost. Consumables: Nozzles, orifices, and high-pressure seals. Electricity: To power the high-pressure pump. Water: For both cutting and cooling the hydraulic system.

Lifespan depends on water quality and operating pressure: Orifice (Jewel): 4060 hours. Nozzle (Mixing Tube): 6080 hours. High-Pressure Seals: 5001,000 hours. Using a water filtration system can significantly extend the life of these components.

Not at all. Modern waterjets use intuitive CNC software that supports direct imports of DXF/DWG files. The software automatically calculates the best pressure and speed based on the material and thickness. Most operators can become proficient after 3 to 5 days of training.
