1.Low Intensity Wet Drum Magnetic Separator Applications
Magnetite Processing – Wet drum magnetic separators are used extensively in magnetite processing to recover and upgrade magnetite.
Dense Media Separation – Wet drum magnetic separators are used extensively in dense media separation to recover mineral used as a flotation medium i.e. magnetite & ferro silicon.
2. Wet Drum Magnetic Separator Working Principle
Wet Drum Magnetic Separators operate on the same basic principle of a drum rotating around shaft mounted, permanent magnetic elements encased in stainless steel canisters. The drum containing the magnetic elements is mounted in a stainless steel tank which receives the feed slurry. The slurry enters the magnetic field generated by the magnetic elements and the ferro-magnetics are attracted against the drum which rotates the ferro-magnetics out of the slurry stream and discharge as they leave the magnetic field.
In a wet drum separator, the magnetic force acting on a ferromagnetic particle is predominately opposed by hydrodynamic drag force. This feature, when properly applied, provides the vehicle of separation washing away the non-magnetic particles while the ferromagnetic particles are collected in the magnetic field. The hydrodynamic drag force is also responsible for any losses of ferromagnetics.
3.Three Types Wet Drum Magnetic Separator
Permanent magnetic drum separators have 3 kinds including downstream type, counter flow type and semi- counter flow type according to the difference of base structure.
Downstream type permanent magnetic drum separator: slurry flows in the same direction with drum.
Counter flow type permanent magnetic drum separator: slurry flows over against drum, which create great conditions for cleaning of non magnetic ores. The non magnetic ores approach the clean surface of drum and the magnetic ores can be absorbed in the strongest magnetic field.
Semi-counter flow type permanent magnetic drum separator: slurry is fed into cavity from the bottom of drum, and the magnetic ores fall into concentrate tank after reaching a certain height, while the non magnetic ores will enter into tailings tank along with slurry in the opposite direction with drum.
