  • In pressure swing adsorption gas separation and purification systems, the adsorbent bed experiences cyclic mechanical stress from gas flow pressure fluctuations, thermal expansion and contraction, and bed movement during vessel depressurization and repressurization. Particle attrition generates fines that migrate through the bed, accumulating on distributor screens, plugging downstream particulate filters, and in severe cases contaminating the product gas stream or damaging rotating equipment in the process train. Our adsorbent-grade 4A zeolite is formed into spherical beads through a controlled granulation and spheronization process followed by high-temperature ceramic bonding. Single-bead crush strength measured according to standardized test methods exceeds 35 Newtons for 1.6 to 2.5 millimeter beads, with a Weibull modulus above 3.0 indicating a narrow strength distribution with few weak outliers. Attrition resistance is quantified by an air jet attrition test in which a defined mass of beads is subjected to high-velocity air impingement for a fixed duration, with the mass of generated fines below 100 micrometers reported as a percentage of initial sample mass, maintained below 0.05 percent. Bulk crush strength measured on a packed bed under a 50-kilogram top load shows less than 1 percent fines generation. Computational fluid dynamics modeling of pressure drop through packed beds of our spherical beads demonstrates 15 to 20 percent lower pressure drop than equivalent beds of irregular granular material, translating directly to reduced blower energy consumption in your adsorption system.
