  • Pre-treatment: The raw slurry is first passed through a screen to remove oversized waste rock, reducing the load on downstream processes. Intensive disintegration and desliming (trough washer): This is the core pre-treatment step. The equipment uses spiral blades to forcefully agitate, cut, and scrub the material, thoroughly breaking up sticky clay balls and achieving separation of mineral from clay. The cleaned ore is pushed toward the discharge port, while the clay-rich overflow water is discharged, effectively preventing slime from interfering with subsequent separation. Mechanical classification and pre-concentration (spiral sand washer): The material enters the spiral sand washer and is mechanically classified by gravity settling. Lighter gangue minerals such as quartz and feldspar are carried away by the water flow, while the denser ilmenite particles settle and are pushed by the spiral toward the discharge end, achieving preliminary enrichment. Concentrate dewatering (dewatering screen): The separated material enters the dewatering screen. Through high-frequency vibration, the water film on the slurry surface is broken, achieving efficient solid-liquid separation. The moisture content of the dewatered ilmenite concentrate can be reduced to below 15%, making it easy to stockpile, transport, and further process.

    Recovery depends on the liberation size of ilmenite in the raw ore, its degree of liberation, and the clay content. Under reasonable operation, the spiral sand washer can achieve a recovery rate of 70%-85% for coarse ilmenite (>0.1 mm). If further cleaning is done with a spiral chute or shaking table, the overall recovery of titanium concentrate can increase to 85%-90%. Note that fine ilmenite particles (<0.074 mm) are easily lost in the overflow, resulting in significantly lower recovery.

    Yes, but the washing stage needs to be strengthened. The trough washer is specifically designed for high-clay materials; its double-spiral forced scrubbing effectively breaks up clay balls.

    Yes. The spiral sand washer is essentially a classification device that separates heavy and light minerals based on differences in settling velocity. Ilmenite has a specific gravity of about 4.7, while quartz and feldspar are about 2.6. In theory, denser particles settle more easily. However, when ilmenite particle size is below 0.074 mm, its settling velocity is not much different from that of fine gangue, making it prone to loss in the overflow.

    Yes, it is prone to clogging, especially when the material contains high clay content or flat particles. Solutions: Use polyurethane screen panels (high open area, self-cleaning) instead of ordinary stainless steel screens. Install spray pipes above the screen deck to periodically flush the screen. Use bouncing balls or rubber balls as a cleaning device, installed under the screen deck, to knock the screen during vibration and prevent clogging. Control the feed density (recommended 25%-35%)

    Water consumption is moderate. Treating one ton of raw ore typically requires 2-5 m³ of water, most of which can be recycled. A typical wastewater treatment scheme: All tailings water from the equipment is collected in a settling pond (usually 2-3 stages). The fine sludge in the settling pond is periodically removed (can be dewatered by a filter press for dry disposal). The clarified supernatant is pumped back to the production system for reuse, achieving a water recycling rate of 80%-90%.
