  • The jaw crusher stands as one of the most essential and widely used primary crushers in the mining, quarrying, and recycling industries. Its fundamental design, reminiscent of a powerful mechanical "jaw," has proven effective for over a century in breaking down large, hard, and abrasive materials.
  • At its heart, a jaw crusher operates on a simple yet robust compressive crushing principle. It consists of two vertical jaws: a fixed jaw and a reciprocating moving jaw. The material to be crushed is fed into the top of the crushing chamber, the V-shaped opening between the jaws. As the moving jaw cycles towards the fixed jaw, it exerts immense mechanical pressure on the feed material, forcing it to break. The crushed product then moves down the chamber by gravity, getting progressively smaller until it discharges at the bottom at the desired size, determined by the closed-side setting.
  • Frame: A heavy-duty, rigid structure that supports all other components.
  • Fixed & Movable Jaw Dies: The replaceable wearing plates lined with manganese steel. Their corrugated surface is critical for effective crushing.
  • Eccentric Shaft: The main driver that converts rotary motion into the elliptical, reciprocating action of the movable jaw.
  • Toggle Plate: A safety mechanism that protects the crusher from damage by uncrushable material (like tramp iron) by bending or breaking.
  • Double Toggle Jaw Crushers: Feature a more complex mechanism with two toggles. They are known for generating less wear on the jaw dies due to a more direct crushing action with less friction. Often preferred for very hard, abrasive materials.
  • Single Toggle Jaw Crushers: The more common modern design. They have a simpler construction, with the movable jaw directly suspended from an eccentric shaft. They are lighter, more compact, and generally offer higher throughput for a given size.
